Celebrating Women of the MarTech Lab: Their Impact and Journey

As we mark International Women’s Day, it’s a perfect moment to shine a light on the inspiring journeys and contributions of women within the MarTech Laboratory, colleagues both past and present. Let’s take a closer look at the stories of current Martech Connectors Ellen White and Hannah McCartney and past colleagues Anastasiia Burlachenko, Abigail Hall, and Areeba Kirmani.

Ellen White, final year BSc Communication, Advertising and Marketing

Empowering Others, Creating Connections

Ellen joined the lab back in August 2023 as a Belfast MarTech Connector. Since then, she has achieved her certifications and earned recognition with the Ulster Edge Award. As a MarTech Connector, Ellen’s passion for digital marketing extended to her peers, creating a supportive network of learning and collaboration to encourage fellow students to embark on their own digital marketing journeys.

Here’s what Ellen had to say about her time at the MarTech Lab so far:

“Since joining the lab I have expanded my digital marketing knowledge in topics such as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in marketing. But mainly, I have enhanced skills such as networking and content creation, all in the name of engaging with students across the university.”

Hannah McCartney, final year BSc Communication, Advertising and Marketing

Inspiring Growth, Fostering Change

Hannah also began her role as a Belfast MarTech Connector in August 2023. Her story is one of personal growth and empowerment. From running support clinics to nurturing a culture of learning, she embodied the ethos of the MarTech Lab every step of the way. Hannah’s journey reminds us that every connection made, every skill learned, and every experienced gained is valuable in shaping a career post-university.

When speaking about her contribution to the Lab, Hannah said “I have really enjoyed my time working in the MarTech Lab. I have learnt so many new skills such as event planning and content creation. It has also really emphasized the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in shaping a successful career path beyond university.”

Anastasiia Burlachenko, MSc Marketing graduate

Learning, Growing, Thriving

For Anastasiia, stepping into the MarTech Lab was a pivotal moment in her journey at Ulster University. As an international student from Ukraine, she seized the opportunity to enhance her marketing skills through the Lab’s free certifications and practical experiences. From certification participant to Lab Associate, Anastasiia’s path was one of continuous learning, growth, and newfound confidence in her abilities. Anastasiia took on the key role of leading social media at the Lab and ensuring we maintained an engaging and informative presence across platforms.

Abigail Hall, final year BSc International Tourism Management

From Internship to Advocacy

Abigail’s time with the MarTech Lab began with an internship focused on sustainability—a cause close to her heart. Through hands-on projects and networking opportunities, she not only gained practical skills but also became a vocal advocate for the Lab at the Coleraine campus. Abigail’s commitment to empowering fellow students reflects the true spirit of community and support within the MarTech community.

Areeba Kirmani, MSc Marketing graduate

Leading with Passion, Making an Impact

Areeba’s path from student to project leader exemplifies the possibilities within the MarTech Lab. Through real-world projects like the North West 200 micro-internship, she honed her skills, unleashed her creativity, and left a lasting impact on the marketing landscape. Areeba’s journey is a reminder that passion, dedication, and innovation are the keys to success in the ever-evolving world of digital marketing.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let’s honor the unique journeys and contributions of all those who have worked within the MarTech Laboratory. These stories remind us that initiative, resilience, and teamwork are the driving forces behind every success, every milestone, and every breakthrough.

Here’s to all the women out there who inspire us, empower us, and shape the future of digital marketing. The diverse and supportive realm of digital marketing offers a place for us all.
